Preparing and packing for your trip to Canada, when done properly, will help make your study experience a success. With many things to remember, it’s important to start early and use tools to help you organize your time and prioritize your responsibilities.

Prepare Required Documents
Without the following documents you may not be allowed to board a plane, enter Canada, or begin your studies in Canada:
- a valid passport;
- a temporary resident visa, if required;
- an introduction letter (from the visa office that approved your study permit application), if required;
- your letter of acceptance and proof of accommodation;
- proof of adequate funds;
- proof of travel insurance; and
- a return ticket to your home country, if required.
Remember: the above documents must be kept on your person or in your carry-on luggage. In addition to original documentation, you should also bring a minimum of two photocopies of each of the above.
Packing
After sorting out the required documentation, should give yourself adequate time to pack for your trip. Make sure to do sufficient research about the weather in the city or town you will be residing in, and pack appropriate clothing. To further ensure a smooth arrival, check to make sure that you are not bringing in restricted or prohibited goods, including food products.
As per customs regulations, also note that you should not bring more than $10,000 CAD into Canada, or you may risk paying fines, penalties, or seizures.
Money Matters
While most Canadian airports will have an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM), it is advised that you bring about $100–$200 in cash, in addition to a credit and debit card, for incidental purchases, services, or emergencies after arrival.
Book or plan for an Airport Pickup/Transportation
In major Canadian cities, in addition to taxis and buses, there may also be subways or rail lines that can take you close to your accommodation. However, most schools also offer Airport pick up services that can safely deliver you to your homestay, dormitory, or apartment.
Remember: if you take a taxi, remember to bring a 10 to 15% tip for the driver.
